You need a bike that can handle your addiction to the twisties as well as comfortably carry two on a weekend trip through the mountains. Your bike is the FJR1300. Can I borrow it someday?

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your

AMA Action Alert - Insurance Coverage

I’m normally not a big fan of the AMA, but I did play along and sign the two petitions regarding closing a loophole that allows insurance companies to deny coverage to those injured in recreational activites including motorcycling. There are two Bills: one from the House and one from the Senate. Please go to this link and click on the ‘Action Alerts’. The AMA site uses Flash and I cannot link directly, but you’ll figure it out. Please take the time to fill out both. The AMA has made this incredibly painless…it takes about 60 seconds per letter if you use their form. If not, please be polite.

Here is the Senate version summary

2006 Yamaha FJR1300 – E-shift anyone.

I am a happy owner of a Honda 2004 ST1300 non ABS. When I was looking for a new ride last year, I came down to a few bikes. I was getting rid of a BMW and really did not want to live with a small dealer network for service. The Yamaha FJR1300 was on the top of my list, but the pre-order thing made my life difficult. All the local Yamaha dealers with an FJR1300 wanted over asking price for the bike. Couple that with a too small rear seat for my wife and a 1 year warrantee and I went with the ST1300 and never looked back.

Is your state “Buyer Friendly”?

Fellow riders,

As enthusiasts, we are constantly checking out bikes, wondering if we should add to our stable. Or maybe just trade. But unless you’re trading down, a new addition costs money.

The other day I was looking into how much it would cost me to buy a 2005 Suzuki DR650SE. The MSRP is $4999. But as we all know, one doesn’t just walk into the dealership and hand over the MSRP amount in cash. There’s also the requisite (1) tax, (2) title, and (3) tags. This can be a large chunk of change, depending upon which state one lives in. Which got me to wondering: Which states are “buyer friendly”?

So let’s do a survey. I’ll start with my state (New

Those crazy stunters . . .

A week ago, the Washington Post printed this story about the Adrenalin Crew. It’s well written and objective. (In my opinion.) Enjoy.

Wheelie Dealing
After Years of Stunts, the Adrenalin Crew Is Getting Its Big Break — and This One Isn’t Painful

The quarter-mile access road isn’t quite dry when the Adrenalin Crew revs the engines.

The crowd, nearly 200 who waited out the rain, hanging around the front of Criswell Power Sports in Germantown, quickly lines both sides of the pavement.

They didn’t come to see the bikes. They came to see the biker boys. A guy rides 100 feet with the back end of the cycle in the air, doing an “endo”

Motoczysz Explained…

After reading both the July and October issues of Motorcyclist Magazine regarding the Motoczysz C1, I have a much better understanding of the mission. It seems that in the beginning, starting with one of the first headlines (from RRW): Chasing the MotoGP Dream, the MotoGP stage was set. I personally think that its good marketing to use the MotoGP platform to gain some attention, but great care has to be used with the likelihood of under-delivering. I covered that already here, so I won’t do it again.

It seems to me that the method of circulation increase for Motorcyclist is to start a controversy. This seems to be true for the Snell vs.

Rossi takes 7th World Championship

With his second place finish yesterday in Malaysia, Valentino Rossi secured his 7th World GP Championship. The Ducatis of Loris Capirossi and Carlos Checa took the other two podium positions with a win and third place finish respectively. This was Capirossi’s and Ducati’s second win in a row. Looks like the ’stones are coming good!

Vale needed only a 4th place finish to secure the championship but in typical world class racer mode he attempted to fight for the win. After a valiant (maybe a pun intended) effort a few laps from the end, he appeared to have something for Loris, but in the end, his fellow Italian was able to pull away. American Nicky Hayden seemed to have third place

Dirtbag Challenge

This was posted on the Aprilia Forum and looks like it would be hilarious to watch. Even though its not my kind of crowd, it is my type of biker build-off: “Low Rent Chooper Build Off”. Check out the details at dirtbagchallenge.com. The rules are simple:

  • No Harleys.
  • $1000 total budget (for you numbnuts out there that’s one thousand dollars, including the bike).
  • Must be able to ride for at least four city blox.
  • One month build time.
  • In the event of a tie, the bike ridden the farthest to the Dirtbag will win. If that doesn’t work then Poll & Wendell will decide. Thassit.

And yes, for those who are reading impaired (!)

Motocourse 2006

As a follow-up to a previous Motocourse review , I found this while browsing around. Motocourse on SALE and FREE SHIPPING…if you order before September 30th. Click here or here to get to their direct site and go from there. This will be my first issue and I’m very much looking forward to it.

This will be their 30th Anniversary Edition. Apparently it sells out quickly and can be hard to find here in the states.

Happy shopping!
