Being patriotic by saving fuel…. Ride to work…

Ok, so hear goes the deal, our president is asking us to save fuel by conserving. And what could be more conservation oriented than riding your motorcycle to work each day. So I am making a pledge to ride the motorcycle each day to work till gas is below $2.75 a gallon in the Phoenix Metro area. My current cage drinks gas at a rate of 22 mpg, and my ST1300 drinks gas at a rate of 42mpg. That is a 20mpg savings, and with a round trip of 82 miles per day, I would reduce my gas usage from 3.7 gallons to less than 2 gallons. At 1.7 gallons saved per day or about 37.4 gallons per month.

How many will sign up for this pledge to help out our fuel shortage. Sign on to this blog and say you are going to switch from the daily cage to and from work to the bike.

Now I know everyone on this blog thinks I am not that patriotic of a guy. But I have to disagree, as I give money to the ACLU, ANNCP, NPR, Green Pease and a few other originations. I am interested in helmet laws, and mandatory rider education. You can’t say I am not patriotic if I give to all these groups and stand up for what I think this country should be about. Maybe one day I will join the NRA, AFA, FRC and Heritage Foundation, but that is in the future.

So join me in my Patriotic action in reducing my gas usage by almost 40 gallons per month.

I ride my bike to work most days already, but with prices here in the DC metro area right at $3 per gallon, you can bet I’m going to try to find even more reasons to “Ride to Work”! In fact I’ll be riding my SV650 more often than the rest of the stable because it gets over 50 MPG! Make “Ride to Work” more than just a one day in July kind of event! It has the side benefit of sharpening your skills. Screw the President, you don’t hear the Feds suggesting motorcycles as an alternative transportation choice, ride your motorcycle because it’s good for YOUR wallet!

I am not going to a thing different. I ride to work every day anyway. And when I get home and take the dog to the park or go shopping I use the Hybrid at about 40mpg.

Is giving money to NPR or GreenPeace patriotic?

Rhino, I don’t need anyone but my local circle-K charging $3.00+ a gallon to make me switch. Remember my pledge is 5 days a week, every day.

James… Giving to NPR and GreenPeace is very patriotic. Who cares more for this country than the Left wing media and people out chain themselves to a US tree. I mean, NPR is out spreading the gospel that the US a great country and is trying to be better by recognizing its faults.

I bet it’s angrybob who is a sissy; you can’t hide behind that “Anonymous” name.

I plan to give bob a ton of sh!t at the office on Tuesday.

AB, be a man and mount that motorcycle. I plan to get two t-shirts and wet them down for the ride home. I will even carry some extra water and dump it over me if I just get to hot.

Again, Be a MAN AB and take the “Nerd” to the office.

Funny. That was me. I was at the hospital for a doc’s appointment for one of our daughters and they had a library with internet access. I forgot to leave my info / sign in.

Guilty as charged.

And nope…not going to happen.

gothicbeaST,
I’m already onboard. I ride to work everyday. ( Unless I have an errand to run. Then I’ll leave the 1.2 liter Bandit in the garage and commute to work in my 2.0 liter Hyundai. ) But I live 5 miles from work, so I never used much gasoline to begin with.

Terrymoto,

That is cool that you already do the ride. For AB and I we work at the same location, and at times getting to work is a bitch on a motorcycle. Anyway I am going to give AB a bitch of a time till he gets on the NERD and rides to work. Time to suffer in the Arizona Desert.

My commute is quite long and I have always used our VW jetta diesel for it’s great economy mileage. At 50 miles to the gallon it tops using any of the bikes.

However I have suggested to my husband for small errands he may want to consider using a bike since it gets better mileage than the truck (also a diesel). Right now in PA diesel prices are lower than gasoline. :-)

whew! my husband does his everyday grind with his motorcycle — riding it to work every other day. It saves quite a few bucks for us instead of commuting through public transport.

in my case, guess i had to have working on getting my guts up to face the highway before i consider riding to work on my Ducati 999R .
