The beaST lowers the weStrom for the lady…

As a few people might know, the wife has a nice DL650 but it was a bit “Tall” for her.

I figured a few rides she would just “Grow” into the bike. But the reality was the riding on tip toes was not making it fun for her. Since it was not fun, she got freaked out at anything more than just riding and really created some issues.

The issues were that I tried to come up with routes that avoided traffic and other “Hazards”. This ended up leading us off the main roads in Phoenix and finding ourselves on roads that were being worked on. In Phoenix every major and minor road is being upgraded, repaired or replaced. At one

More Phoenix motorcycle rides….

Another day off of work (When do I have to go back anyway) and some time with the lady and another easy day ride.

So we took off from our West Phoenix home down I-10, took exit #103 and worked our way to 339th Ave (BTW: Their are 597 Ave’s in Maricopa County) and headed north. 339th ave is also known as Wickenburg road. I guess at one time it was a dirt road to Wickenburg and when they paved it it was easier to go straight up 339th till they hit the dirt trail. I am not sure, but Wickenburg roads main purpose in life is to give gravel hauling trucks a place to check out their top speeds. We

Filling the Mille ‘R’ Gap

Now that my RSVR has been effectively spread all over the planet, there is a void that needs to be filled. The truth is that its a perceived void since my sport bike riding time is limited with two toddlers these days…and I’m cool with that. The reason for the sale was simply that in order to hit the good twisties local to me, it takes no less than a 2pm return time regardless with a 7:30 departure. That’s the reason I haven’t done it since my road trip to Laguna Seca for MotoGP.

I’m taking the simple route on this one. Its called dirt-biking in the desert . Now that I have some fundage in

Twisting Asphalt - Year In Review

I am jealous. Its a very rare occasion that I want to be part of California (the good) because of Kalifornia (the bad). Each time I have ventrued there on four wheels, it sucked. Between the LA traffic and the fuel prices, I don’t think its for me. Yet each time I visit on two wheels, I ponder how I can get there more often or even permanently.

This year in review by Dylan of Twisting Asphalt is the exact reason to get there on two wheels. Read and enjoy.

Motorcycles, Winter and Phoenix.

Well it was a lovely 75degrees in Phoenix on X-mas day. Since I have the week off due to company policy and the wife does not work… Nothing better than a few mile motorcycle ride with the little lady.

Riding with the wife is a bit different, as the ride and the togetherness is more important than the kind of road or how fast I can go. Because of that, I notice more than the apex of every corner and notice all the freaking building that is going on west of Phoenix.

Our ride took us from our Phoenix home, out to Surprise Now I always think of Surprise as “Surprise, you live here… what were you thinking”.

Motorcycle Gifts

As time progresses, Christmas is less for adults and more for kids. Even in my twenties, I was gifted some pretty cool stuff. With little ones and being a family guy now, I don’t just go out and spend money on whatever I want that’s motorcycle related. I still buy stuff throughout the year, but its tempered. Because of that, I try and load up during the birthday and Christmas list.

Of the riders that I know, Christmas usually brings about new things too. This year was a $100 contribution to my new Sidi Way Tepor boots for commuting, and a $100 gift certificate from AF1 Racing for my Caponord. Now the difficult part

Motorcycle Crash Video - gothicbeaST

Because its Christmas time, I figured I would post a video that might bring joy to some of the readers…OK not really joy, but you get the point as he’s our resident shit-starter. ;) Our own gothicbeaST was at a trackday put on by AZ Trackday. He rented an Kawasaki ZX-6R through the sponsors and off he went…literally.

The location was Firebird Raceway on the West Main Course. He was there with his wife and she happened to catch the crash on video. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. gothicbeaST is now immoratlized in this video! Enjoy.

Ahem - that windscreen used to say “RENT ME!”

Pacsafe LidSafe Helmet Bag

This little item crossed my desk a couple of weeks ago and I think it’s pretty cool. Pacsafe has created a unique line of secure, soft-sided motorcycle luggage. Secure and soft-sided? Exactly. Sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of ballistic nylon is a stainless-steel cable mesh that makes it nigh on impossible to slice the bag open and remove the contents. In addition, an integrated cable allows the logguage to be secured to the bike, a flag pole or other convenient fixed object. Finally, the luggage is waterproof so your helmet and other gear will stay dry. Very cool stuff.

I was so impressed that when Pacsafe approached me about a contest to give away one of their

Deal’s Gap Video - Pocket Bikes

I have been to Deal’s Gap many, many times back when I lived in Michigan. A group of us would make the trek 3-5 times per year from 1996-2001. It is arguably one of the greatest roads in the country if you like the tight twisties. Its one of the very few things I miss about Michigan compared to Arizona - driving distance to the Dragon.

I was also involved in a Deal’s Gap video produced by speedmadness.com which was pretty fun. Shhhh - we had an in with the local authorities and actually got footage from a ‘county’ helicopter (from the NC side). Those were the days.

We learned over the years to bite
