Motorcycle Crash Video - gothicbeaST

gothicbeaST and the wadded steedBecause its Christmas time, I figured I would post a video that might bring joy to some of the readers…OK not really joy, but you get the point as he’s our resident shit-starter. ;) Our own gothicbeaST was at a trackday put on by AZ Trackday. He rented an Kawasaki ZX-6R through the sponsors and off he went…literally.

The location was Firebird Raceway on the West Main Course. He was there with his wife and she happened to catch the crash on video. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. gothicbeaST is now immoratlized in this video! Enjoy.

Ahem - that windscreen used to say “RENT ME!”

Actually the crash happened on Firebird Main.
I was on the 180degree turn onto the main straightway and crashed as I was entering the long straightway. Which is a drag drip with nice unfriendly concrete walls on either side.

BTW AB, no crash video of you at Gratton on that R1?

FYI: The little woman was not all to happy to see me crash and the next frame of the video the camera is pointing down and she is running to my aid :( … Sorry guys, for some defective reason she likes me.

There was indeed video of my low speed high-side. I even viewed it immediately following, but don’t really remember (heh - head was ‘concussed’). He gave me his number and said he would make a copy for me. I can’t tell you how many times I called him…to no avail.

So…some guy named John in West Bloomfield, MI…you know who you are…send me that video!

So, for those of us who are not expert track-day type people, what caused this crash? I watched the video several times, and it looks like the front tire just tucked in, but I couldn’t figure out why. Might be a good lesson for riders who want to avoid crashing. :)

My best memory is fear that I was about to run into the tire of the guy in front of me. He took a wide line and cut into my line going about 10mph slower than I. I chopped the throttle and since I was at the limit of the front tire anyway, it was crash city.

Chalking this up to ‘part of riding on the track’, it looks like the actual tuck was from the front brake being stabbed while leaned over. I am not so sure that chopping the throttle alone would tuck the front end like that.

Its the main down side of track days…the public ones…because you really don’t know who is riding next to you. Some groups are putting on private track-day clubs with limited access and quantity of riders.

Heh - you make a great statement about perception and reality with regard to space. I had what I though was a wicked ‘almost’ high-side at Deal’s Gap. The beauty was that I also had a tank-mounted video camera. As soon as I got to the gas station (C.I.T), I rewound for my viewing. No justice on the video :( for the amount that I soiled my leathers.

[…] After my crash (see the immortal crash footage on AB’s Blog) I decided that the crash was due to suspension not being properly setup. It does not hurt that I was pushing way too hard and trying to keep some wimpy ZX-6 moving with my big ass on it. It’s all the suspensions fault, and I know that I was not to blame. […]

Stuff happens quicker then most people relize. When I ate the concret it happened just like you only I had a 998 matrix and it cost me nearly 3000 to fix it. Nevertheless, just get back up and try again.
