AZTrackDay - April 23rd, 2006

Hi Gang,

This past weekend found the wife and I out at the track playing road racer. Nothing to big happened, expect for the normal stuff.

The highlights are…

- The Harbor freight trailer worked ok, it rattles and sounds like a $500 trailer that it is.

- We got to the track late, and the gate was not open when we got their.

- The track time started late and they combined the intermediate and expert groups. I am not ready for the expert group as I am just way slower (by 5 seconds a lap)

- The wife used our new video camera to video tape me.

- We noticed I had my front tire and rim on my GSXR750, backwards. Lucky some people helped me turn it around. I found out that on my 2000 GSXR, you can have the wheel in either direction, so you can get more tire life.

- I got sick by the end of the day and have missed two days at work :(

- I have another track day this Sunday and that is it for the season.

Beast,

What’s up with the short season? Is it getting a little hot down your way? Any 100 deg days yet? It’s just starting to get nice here in the Mid-Atlantic.

If you’re looking to be more than a one-hit-wonder, there’s a little track in Deming, NM (Arroyo Seca) you could try for fun. Then again, Willow Springs might be just as close. And don’t forget, the new Miller Motorsports Park near SLC, Utah.

Personally, I like trying different tracks, more challenging.

Rhino,

The season is short because once it’s over 100deg it is no fun to be out in the sun waiting for your 15min session.

The Arroyo Seca has a great racing series and they offer two day track days for $165 pre-paid.  So you get both a Saturday and Sunday track day, plus overnight camping. I am looking to hook up with someone to go, but the same heat in phoenix is down in Deming. Plus Deming is 400miles from my home in phoenix.

Willow springs is an oven from May though September, so I will skip that as well.

I am singed up for the STAR school at MMP (Miller Motorsports Park) at the end of September I probably will not get out to MMP much as it’s over 850miles from Phoenix.

I like different tracks as well and I hope that AMP (Same designer as MMP) wins it’s court case and BMP (Buckeye Motorsports Park) opens up soon. Till then I will stick with Firebird and go up to Pahrump and California Speedway which are 325miles from my place.

Well I can accept that… I am a HUGE guy… but I am out at the track… That’s is something more than some poser who keeps old racing photos of his “Glory Days” up on the wall… That is so EX High School QB…
