Roadracing World Track Day Directory

For those of you who are interested in attending a track day, but don’t know where to start, I have some good news.  Roadracing World has released a track day directory.  I do not own this book, but have been an on and off subscriber to RRW since 1993.  Its, in my book, the best motorcycle magazine for my needs today.  Drawing on the quality of their current magazine, I feel safe to recommend the following:

A couple important things are also discussed such as prep’ing your bike and you mind.  These are things that I had to learn on my own back in the day I attending track days and running AMA/CCS and WERA.  There were classes at the track, but at that point it was a little late!

Even though track days aren’t for me any more, it is a great way to better your track skills.  Not all of it applies to the street (mountain twisties, etc. - but that’s a whole new article), but understanding the bike’s capability is enlightening.  BTW - its WAY more than you think if you have never been to the track.  Its also a way to wad your bike up.  While it is safer than the street (no obstacles, cages, etc.), the propensity to crash can be bigger since you are pushing new limits.  Its give and take.

One small change that has occurred since I was on the track, is the number of track day outfits.  I don’t even know if Chicago’s 4&6 even exists any more, but nowadays private riders have started organizing there own events.  Most of the time its due to lack of availability or overcrowded sessions.  Another option is to get some 15 guys together and rent a track on an off-day…say Wednesday.  Many times these can be had for $1500 or so.

If I were doing track days, this $7 would be well spent I am sure.

AB,

I will bring the RRW Track Day Mag for you to read and add to your report. I bought it just because I wanted a one stop shop for resources on track days.
