TIVO and Road racing… a wonderful marriage

I love my TIVO box (Well it’s actually a ReplayTV 45xx unit – I have two of them) for all thing TV. If you don’t have one, I suggest you buy or rent a DVR (Digital Video Recorder).
See a TIVO unit is so much more than a fancy VCR. TIVO takes the power of TV Guide and matches it to what you want to see. After a few programming selections, you will start to receive program that you normally missed. For me that is Motorcycle Racing, PBS stuff and odds and ends shows.
For the past two years I have been able to watch every MotoGP round. Not only have I been able to do that, but I have been able to watch it on my own terms. I don’t worry about being home in time for the big race, it will be their when I get back. I don’t have to watch commercials either. The best part is my own replay system, I go back and watch sections in slow motion and see things you never see at full speed.
Take for instance the past MotoGP, the Dutch TT at Assen:
The final corner was an exciting end to the race. But going back into that last few seconds you can see so much more. First you see Collin out braking Nicky and pulling along side. Then you see the front forks of Nicky extend a bit as he backs off the brakes. Nicky then turns in and you can see his front tire slide out and the quick extension and compression of the front suspension. From there you can see Nicky look over at Collin and stop focusing on the turn. Finally you see Nicky go off the track and then Collin Edwards go off the inside of the final turn. You see that Collin still had the power on and that the rear tire started to spin and start the highside that ended his chance to be on the top of the podium.
TIVO is great for going back and watching all the crashes, passes and looking for extra info that you did not catch. I watch all the “Action” in an attempt to understand what happened and what NOT TO DO. As if I have any where the skill level these riders have.
TIVO is your friend, just don’t be surprised that you stop watching regular TV after getting one.

Now, if you could only get the internet sites and your friends not to tell you the outcome of the race until you’ve had a chance to view it!

P.S. - for all MotorcycleBlogger contributors, take a hint from SuperbikePlanet.com and make the title line of any time sensitive race results contribution “Race Results Revealed” so that readers can avoid knowing an outcome until they get a chance to view the race.
