At Least The Patriot Guard Riders Can’t Be Sued…

It is impossible not to get a little political with this article, but I’ll keep it tempered.  I hate the ACLU with a passion.  They serve as a free and powerful legal service for all things way left of center.  This time they are suing the states that passed laws to combat the maggots in the Westboro Baptist Church that protest at soldier’s funerals across the country because “GOD HATES FAGS”.  The relationship between their slogan and a soldier that has given the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country???  Ahhh forget it…just read it yourself in the link above.

The WBC is the very reason that the Patriot Guard was formed.  They show up at our soldier’s funerals (upon

Red Bull US MotoGP at Laguna Seca Attendees Roll Call

If you went this year, I would like to hear from you.  I went last year and will go in either ‘07 or ‘08.  But since I have gotten two comments on a different article already about this year’s races, I think I’ll try to collect them all here.  So please take a moment and enlighten me on your trip if you went this year:  the good, the bad, and the ugly!  Here are the two mentioned above:

from Marc…
The races were awesome! very hot, but a little shade and lots of water made it great. It must have been really bad for those on the buses, BUT on a motorcycle, you cruised in and cruised out with no hitch. Seca really

Motoczysz Version 2 Unveiling - US MotoGP Laguna Seca

I just received a note from the guys at Motoczysz about their weekend at this year’s MotoGP at Laguna Seca (can I really say that w/o including Red Bull somewhere?).  It sounds like they had a blast and survived the weekend.  The below picture is a first look at the Motoczysz C1 Version 2 that has been talked about since the C1’s parade laps last year.  Take a look at this work of art:

This is the first photo I have seen of the real deal.  Even the Cycle World article this month had the computer generated versions.  Of course, fans all over were able to photograph and drool over it if they went to the races - Motoczysz had a

Flat Tires, Battery Tenders, and Bike Covers

That’s what’s in my garage right now.  The dirt bike has both the front and rear tires flattened (due to lack of use and the forever slow leak of inner tubes).  The Futura is sitting right behind her with a Battery Tender and a cover.  And yes, the cover has dust in it.  This time of year in Phoenix its simply too hot to ride…even in the mornings.

Its still a little better than Michigan because if I wanted to suffer a little, I could go riding.  Snow mean No mister in any case!  This condition is a little depressing (well…not literally) because the dirt bike is my mental dump after a long week.  Second, I have taken a liking to

Ride to Work Day - 19July2006

Yeah I know, nice notice the freakin’ day before.  Hey…better late than never.

Check it out:  http://www.ridetowork.org/

Damn!  Even though its 115F or so, I was going to plan on riding into work.  Really I was.  But tomorrow I will be traveling and I’m not taking my precious to the airport.  Yeah…that’s a great reason.

US MotoGP on ABC Clarity

It is true that the Red Bull MotoGPat Laguna Seca will be televised on ABC.  I think that its a great step forward for the US fanbase.  But before we wet ourselves, the coverage is ONE WEEK LATER.  It will air on July 30th, not July 23 as will be shown live on SPEED.  Take a look from roadracingworld.com:

Updated Post: U.S. MotoGP To Air On ABC Network

Jul 13, 2006

In a landmark moment for the sport, MotoGP will be broadcast on network television across the United States this summer after an agreement was reached between ABC and MotoGP’s commercial rights-holders Dorna Sports.

The deal will see the 2006 Red Bull US Grand

MotoGP Coverage - WTF?

WTF?  On the final lap of the MotoGP in Germany (Sachsenring), someone cuts to a commercial.  I could see it if the race was a runaway, but the top four people finished within less than 0.4 seconds.  It was hard to tell if they picked up coverage at exactly the same point.

What I don’t know is who made that call which is why I used the word “someone” above.  Was it SPEED? Doubt it.  Was it DORNA?  That’s my guess because the announcers seemed pretty in tune to it.  Totally unacceptable and terrible planning if you ask me.

What I do know is that I immediately focused on a close-by analog clock (that would be one with a second hand for you ‘mouth-breathers’).

Motoczysz in Cycle World

This month’s Cycle World (ok - August ‘06) has a great write-up on the further developments of the C1 project.  Anyone who reads this blog regularly (both of you), knows that I am a fan and even got to tour the company.

SIDEBAR:  Is there something a little self-stroking if you link to yourself???  END SIDEBAR

If you are a fan of the project or even interested, go get this month’s Cycle World while its still on the stands.  There is a lot of NEW info there.  The best part id that you get to see computer generated versions of the finished product, and its beautiful.  As a heterosexual male, I rarely use that word.  But this time, its appropriate.

I just sent this letter to the AMA.

AMA,

A motorcyclist was killed recently here in Vestal, NY. The scene of the crime was the classic “left turn into rider” scenario. The driver is being charged with “failure to yield”. That’s it!

Below is the article from the local paper.

Sincerely,
“First name” “Last name”
“AMA Member Number”

First Ride - Triumph Daytona 675

Last night I took a call from our own Chuck B stating that his nephew was in town for the weekend and that he rode his new Triumph Daytona 675 over.  He also said “you’ve gotta check this thing out”.  That’s code for “take it for a ride”.

I knew that was the case, but I still couldn’t muster 100F+ in jeans and full riding gear.  That, and its a guy’s bike that I have never met.  I didn’t want to have a helmet in hand when I showed up upon meeting the guy.  So…off I went with shorts, a t-shirt, and shoes (at least I changed out of my normal flip-flops).

Wow.  Thte bike looks great in print, but even better in
