MotoGP Estoril - Hayden vs. Pedrosa

Here’s some dish that I found around the net.  One falls under the category of DUH.  The other falls under the category of “Are you f’ing kidding me?”:

Punishments at HRC?
October 17, 2006Following Dani Pedrosa’s extremely controversial taking out of erstwhile points leader (and Repsol Honda teammate) Nicky Hayden at the Estoril MotoGP round, some in the European motorcycling press are calling for retribution within HRC. The nearly unanimous opinion is that Pedrosa’s move was ill-advised at best, and many fans have called for his head, but because the rookie had been given no team orders, this seems extremely unlikely. That doesn’t mean, however, that other people in the team won’t pay a price.

According to Italian website http://www.motograndprix.it/ HRC General Manager Tsutomu Ishii is the most likely to be punished, and such a move would not be unprecedented; other HRC officials to have undergone similar treatment in the not-so-distant past include Kouji Nakajima and Carlo Fiorani.

Other overseas news sources are demanding that Alberto Puig be removed from the team. The Spaniard, who has the title of “crew chief” for the rider he has long mentored, was quoted this week on Spanish website http://www.as.com/ making comments that seem to lay the blame for the crash at least partially with Hayden:

Dani had a mathematical chance, so who would obligate him not to race?” Puig said, explaining why team orders were not in place. “He crashed because the other rider [Hayden] braked early, and he had to turn in. If that didn’t happen, he wouldn’t have crashed. Dani was going fine, and on the previous lap, Hayden had hit him…. A big deal is being made because this involves the leader of the championship and his teammate. The first thing Hayden had to do was get in front, which he hasn’t done all year. I know it’s terrible for Honda and for Nicky, but it could have happened to anyone.”

It’s Nicky’s fault?  I’m not riding my bike into work tomorrow because pigs must be flying and I don’t want to take one of those dumps at 70mph in the faceshield.

I’m not a pro but when I did club racing the rider in front had right of way.

Not that any of this really matters. Do you really think Rossi would have allowed Hayden to win? At best Rossi got his hopes up for a while. Hayden though the world championship was in his grasp. Rossi will be up to his usual tric. Let Hayden lead the track until the last 2 or 3 laps then overtake him.
There are lots of BS published on the net ragarding this issue. Some even say that Dani was paid to do so because they dont want to see an american title holder. B.S!!!!
I was hoping Hayden would make it, but i think in the end of the day Rossi is better. Hayden got there by luck. The prove is in the pudding. Will see what the 29th has to offer.

It not just about the rider. First, I want to say that I am a big Hayden fan. Second, I think Rossi is the best GP rider in the world today. Third, remember the motorcycle? Remember the team? Being World Champion is as much about managing racing and all it vagaries the best as it is about the riders skill. You may not like that a rider not as good as another may become champion. Non the less the fact is that the champion is the one who preservers the best through it all. It not just about the rider.
