Ugh. This is something I saw back on 11/22 when it originally happened. Two of three motorcycle police escorts for President Bush during his visit to Hawaii crashed from a “rain-slicked roadway”.

Two injured motorcycle officers in serious condition
Two of the three Honolulu Police Department motorcycle officers involved in a crash while escorting President George W. Bush to Hickam Air Force Base are in serious condition at The Queen’s Medical Center.
The motorcycles reportedly slipped indvidually on a rain-slicked roadway at about 7:10 a.m near the base entry area.
City Emergency Services transported two of the officers to the medical center. Police officials said that by mid-morning two of the officers were in serious condition and the other was in good condition.
It now appears one of the officers involved in the accident has died from his injuries.
A motorcycle officer injured last week while escorting President Bush in the islands died Sunday, police said.
Steve Favela, 30, and two other officers crashed their cycles as the presidential motorcade was traveling across Hickam Air Force Base to meet troops for breakfast early Tuesday. The other officers were treated at The Queen’s Medical Center and released.
Favela, an eight-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department and father of four, had suffered internal injuries and chad been in critical condition at the medical center.
Bush said in a statement that he and the first lady were “deeply saddened” by the death, and sent their condolences.
“Officer Favela risked his life every day to protect the people of his community,” Bush said in the statement. “In this time of great sadness, we give thanks for his life of service.”
Police Capt. Frank Fujii said police officers across the state would place black bands across their badges in honor of Favela.
“When I received the phone call that Steve had passed away, quite frankly my heart just sank to the guts of my stomach,” Fujii said.
Light rain had been falling on the partly cloudy morning of the crash, and some roads on the base were slick.
Members of the White House medical team _ including an ambulance _ were cut loose from the motorcade to help. Local ambulance and fire units also responded…
This kind of incident sucks. Bad. Here is a guy performing his duty on just another day, probably honored to be escorting a president. Motorcycle cops log some of the most miles of anyone out there day in and day out. The roads must have been bad for two guys to go down in the same spot separately.

Like your blog. Also, I was saddened to read about the m/c officer who died as a result of the crash which occured while escorting GW. These guys have a tough gig - and it’s good to read comments such as yours which recognise that fact.
