Motorcycle Accident - LaVar Arrington

Anoher NFL guy wads his bike up (HT: terrymoto).  LaVar Arrington was hospitalized due to serious injuries from the crash.  This was a single vehicle accident on a highway ramp.  Just like Arnold the Govenator, LaVar didn’t have an endorsement.

LANHAM, Md. — Former Redskins and Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington was hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle crashed on a highway ramp, police said.

Arrington lost control and hit a guardrail, Maryland State Police Sgt. Russell Newell said.

Arrington, who turns 29 Wednesday, was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not involved in the accident, Newell said. Arrington was issued two citations — one for operating the motorcycle without a proper license, and one for the crash itself.

Washington drafted Arrington No. 2 overall in 2000, and he made three Pro Bowl appearances while with the Redskins. But he injured his knee in 2004, his playing time decreased, and Arrington bought out his contract after the 2005 season.

He then joined the Giants but was injured in October and played only six games last season. New York released him in February.

No one wants to see a fellow rider go down, but I wonder what his experience level is with riding? What kind of bike?

UPDATE:

Carl Poston [his agent] said he was unsure if the leg hurt in the accident is the same one Arrington’s injured in September, but obviously was hoping not. He believes Arrington was leaning towards trying to make a comeback, but Carl’s brother, Kevin, who also represents LaVar, told me several times this offseason that he could not rule out retirement.

LaVar is opening a sports bar in PG County and had lots of other interests. This crash likely effectively ends his playing career. He has not been fully healthy since 2003.

A lot of people who know LaVar well were unaware he even had a motorcycle, including Poston.

The following are the comments I sent to TerryMoto directly related to this reported incident ……………………………..

A couple of observations:

No valid MOTORCYCLE endorsement - this is typical! While most people know you’re supposed to have it, they all think they don’t need it because “how hard can it be to ride a motorcycle?”. (Arnold Schwartzeneger claimed he didn’t know you needed a motorcycle endorsement after his crash - liar OR worse - ignorant)

Cited for “failure to control speed” - typical cops! Even though it was “not known” what his speed was, they still gave him a ticket …. total BS revenue generation. What if he hit some oil or gravel? I know it’s likely he was going too fast for his skill set and target fixated when he got in too fast.

ZX-14 - Arrington’s a typical arrogant male athlete. He wanted the biggest penis on the road, even if he didn’t know how to ride it properly (also see - Rothlessburger - Hyabusa). I guarantee this is his first bike and that he got no recognized training. I also guarantee the only reason he had a helmet on was he was in Maryland which requires helmet use.

I wonder which pro athlete’s next on the list to crash his bike?
