Track Safety – San Jose BMW Pulls out of Iowa Moto-ST Round

I have been getting into the Moto-ST series. The idea of more reasonable motorcycles doing semi-endurance racing is really cool. The Moto-ST series is run by Roger Edmondson, who we all know had a little run in with AMA Racing. Roger is now putting on a racing with the support of the Frances’ family of NASCAR.

This weekend the Moto-ST round will be run at the Iowa Speedway. An Oval track with an inside road course The Moto-ST course uses Turn’s #1 and #2 to and from the infield road course The Oval track is 60 feet wide, and the Moto-ST riders are dragging a knee going around turn’s #1 and 2. Obviously running at 135mph and dragging a knee is exciting. But the downside is the outer wall has no airfence or other motorcycle specific protection devices.

The San Jose BMW team decided that the risk is to high to race at the track. Call them weak kneaded or spoilers, but I think Safety is important for racing. You can not go flat out if you worried that crashing will hurt you.

It’s a shame you pulled out. Just think if your crashed like team #8 did in the GST class you could of won by default. It seems that the rule book written for the Moto-St series can be changed on the fly.

Oh man, you are cold Kathy!
Higbee is in serious condition and Kcraget is in critical condition, after Higbee hit the wall and Kcraget hit his bike.
But they did get 1st and 2nd place after the race was called.
