How cool is that? Greg White racing Ben spies superstock bike.

around the net today, I found a report on roadracingworld about Greg White getting a shot at racing the Yoshimura Suzuki superstock bike at the final round of the AMA series at Laguna.Greg White

For those who don’t know Greg White, he was the once shaved head (Just like AB) host of Two Wheeled Tuesday. After almost three years the programs plug was pulled for the much more topical “Superbikes” show. Since then Greg has continued to act as a field reporter down on the gird at AMA races when broadcast on speed TV. Another little known fact is Greg was very eager to become a professional road racer. It has been commented on by Star School founder Jason Pridmore that Greg tried very hard to become fast enough to race completely on the WERA and AMA circuit. Fortunately for us, Greg got his TV gigs.

What is extra cool is what Yoshimura Suzuki is doing for Greg. It appears that Greg White will be running the race with a TV camera and reporting on the race while racing. This may not be good for his grid position, but I think it is wonderful for us to watch. Since Greg is not THAT SLOW, we should be able to understand what the privateers are going though. Beyond that we should get an in-depth feeling of racing that race and trying to make the field on the best of equipment.

Lets all pull for Greg so we can watch him on TV.

Greg is THAT SLOW! He’ll be running dead last within a lap or two. I only hope he pulls off before the leaders come around.

He tried to ride in an AMA race and talk us through it at the same once before (about 3 years ago)and failed miserably.

He’s a boring TV commentator that asks obvious questions and makes references to recent “bad moments” a racer may have had within minutes of them getting ready for the start of a race.

The only thing he does well is set-up Freddie to look good by asking rehearsed questions during the race so “The 3 Time World Champion” can look good. (Freddie still thinks Ducati is racing a 748 in Formula Extreme).

Support Greg White, I think NOT! The sooner he’s replaced, the better.

I used t watch 2 Wheel Tuesday religiously. But Greg White is one of a couple reasons I don’t any more. I think he is a tool.

That said, I’m truly jealous. What a great oportunity and what great weasel action - you never know until you ask.

Another thought related to the Greg White opportunity.

If Yosh Suzuki really wanted to do the series a favor, instead of letting some journalist ride the Spies machine (you’ll never see that in MotoGp or WSBK), how about one of it’s more deserving privateers: Geoff May, Martin Cadenas, or my personal favorite, Scott Jensen.

Scott got 3rd place at Road America on a “true” privateer machine (In my mind M4 EMGO doesn’t really qualify). Scott’s been riding privateer in AMA forever and deserves a shot at the big boys. Besides, he’s got the best sideburns in the paddock! Someday Mladin and Spies will be gone and they’ll need someone else to fill the spots, and it ain’t gonna be Greg White!

I would be good with Scott Jensen getting the shot. Scott has been very nice to me at the tracks in phoenix. One time he slowed down on the last corner not to LAP me on my first race.

My hope is that Scott Jensen will get a SuperStock ride for 2008 on a semi-factory team.

And as I predicted, Greg White was dead last. He couldn’t even make the grid! Then, even though he admitted he was the weak link, the excuses about needing more time started flowing. Freddie even told him “good job”. Then White started thanking his sponsors(?), can you say commercial?

When are we going to stop praising failure!!! Trying is not enough. If you suck, do what it takes to get better, then try again. And if you continually don’t make significant improvement, give-up! But don’t do it on television.

Here’s to all the guys who pour their hearts, bodies and finances into racing. They make it possible for teams like Yosh to make the real money. If you can make the AMA 115% cutoff, I salute you! You’re awesome!

How does G-Unit keep his job? Oh, yeah, he’s all we’ve got and SPEED’s not about to invest any time or effort in finding or grooming someone new.
