Patience is a Virtue

I have been a regular Sanford and Son with the buying and selling of just ’stuff’ in general.  Within the last two weeks I have bought an ‘05 YZ250, a 50″ DLP TV, a complete surround system with a Yamaha receiver (of course), a personal GPS unit, and about $400 worth of dirt bike parts and accessories.  In turn, I have sold my SV650, a Glock Model 23, A Mossberg 695 12 Ga. shotgun w/ Leupold scope, and a somewhat solid commitment on a 42″ plasma TV.  Lots of transactions going on these days and all with the use of free online classifieds.

The funny thing is that I have been trying to sell the TV and sat on the SV for some time.  My wife was busting my balls to drop the price after the third day.  She is terrible at selling things.  The never-ending pessimist when it comes to turning goods.  To her, “for sale” means garage sale style - take the first offer no matter what.  As for me, I never sell anything out of urgency if I can avoid it.  Most of what I sell, I don’t really care if the sale happens or not.  That’s a good position to be in when negotiating a price.  And as far as I am concerned, I have the time to wait it out.

The same is true for selling a motorcycle.  I think you have to be reasonable, but also know the true ‘bottom line’ and have the stones to stick with it.  Of course there are boundaries, but 99% of my transactions are win-win where no one felt like they got the shaft.

So now that the dust has settled, and my motorcycle gear / needs have been met, I will be filling the vacancies in my firearm stable likely this weekend.  Its a tough call really.  On one hand, I have always wanted an over-under shotgun for shooting clay and birds, but I already have excellent matching Franchi 12 & 20 Ga. semi-autos.  At the moment, I currently have a weakness for the Springfield XD-series handguns.  I’m not sure which caliber, but one of these will likely be my newest addition to the arsenal.

These are the times that try men’s souls…not knowing which toy to buy.
