The Jumpers

The most famous of them all was Evel Knievel.  During 1975, he jumped his Harley Davidson a distance of 151 feet at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.  That was a new distance record for a motorcycle jumper.  He tried to best that at the Snake River Canyon but, as is well known, the effort on his rocket bike failed due to a malfunctioning parachute which opened prematurely.  Evel was lucky to escape that attempt with his life.  Well, Evel is long gone now.  His harrowing daredevil exploits and his life are behind him - may he rest in peace.  He was, indeed, the master motorcycle-jump artist of his time.

This past weekend on 24 May 2008, Evel Knievel’s son, Robbie, bested his father’s record with a 220 foot jump

Road Closed

We decided to run up to our local Super Target to get some stuff this afternoon. The exit to our development was coned off to only flow one way (the wrong way) due to an accident. As I rolled up, it was a motorcycle / vehicle accident with the car empty and a biker walking around. Not a good sight.

All I saw at that vantage point was a cruiser on it side and a small car facing the other way from my sight line. I was able to u-turn and get going the correct way, but it had us pass the accident scene close up. By this point, the biker I saw was hugging his

It is always a sad thing to see a brother biker go down. Not only are
we sympathetic to our fallen comrade, but also in a way, it reminds us
of our own mortality.

Everytime we mount our iron horses, there is always a sense of
invulnerability. A high that brings us to the level of supermen. We
are the super heroes of the road. Untouchables.

Nothing can be further from the truth. In fact, for us riders,
kryptonite is everything, everywhere, anywhere, anytime.

Part of the reason why we ride is because we accept this danger. It is
a decision we make everytime we ride. We believe that danger can come
from anywhere, in any form. A harmless young girl, in any other
circumstance, is just a young girl. A

Riding on Memorial Day Weekend

I never gave it much thought, but motostrano.com sent me this little nugget that got me thinking:

As tempting as it may be, being a motorcycle shop and all, to say “Go have a great ride this Memorial Weekend,” we like to remind folks that this weekend is sadly and typically one of the deadliest for motorcyclists. It’s typically the first long weekend out for all the newbies and summer-only riders out there in the world and every one gets crazy, all at the same time. So, this memorial weekend hit up a lake, or river, a beach, veg out in the backyard, save a tank of gas or 4 and put it away for your kid’s college fund, or whatever,

Taking time to just Ride…

I did something different today, I just went for a ride.  No big destination, no race to attend, no nothing.  I just went out and took a ride and turned a few times.  I ended up finding myself riding though the Gila Indian reservation and before I knew it, I was close to Firebird Raceway.  I stopped over and said hi to a few friends who were out for a trackday.   My race bike is down for the summer to give me a chance to do something else but race and be competitive.

While hanging out at the trackday, a very unfortunate turn of events happened.  Seems a guy was out on his rather new Yamaha R1 and for some reason

Time to sell a race bike.

Back when this Blog first got started, I soon purchased my first track bike.  In January of 2006 I picked up a well used 2000 GSXR750, with the only intention of going out and doing track days.  Little did I know that it would quickly lead me down the dark path of motorcycle racing.

Allot has changed for me with my track riding.  I really liked my GSXR750 because it had lots of power and I felt it was a real race bike.  Over time I came to understand that the ‘2000 GSXR750 had seen it’s glory days as a race bike fade.  It’s all about confidence and the 2000 GSXR750 while capable, did not give as much confidence as the

Scott Jensen - WSBK Wildcard - Miller Motorsports

I just got word today that Scott Jesen has been given a world superbike wildcard position for the June 1st race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah

For those who don’t know who Scott Jensen is, he is a Phoenix, AZ road racer that for the past few years has been chasing a dream to be an AMA road racing star.  Scott Jensen is not some rich guy who is going racing, but an average motorcycle Joe that has put his whole life on hold to chase the dream.  Last year Scott Jensen got a 3rd place at Road America in the SuperSport division.  He ended up last year 5th overall in AMA SuperSport

Kendon Sport Bike Lift

Last December during the Xmas holiday (Darn Pagan Rituals), I was out in the OC.

Being it the giving time of year, I gave a call to Kendon Industries about picking up a Sport Bike Lift.  The nice lady on the phone told me they were having a scratch and dent sale, and to run on over to their Anaheim, California office on La Palma Ave.

Never to be one to pass up a good sale, the wife and I went over to check out the deals.  Within 30min of being at their office, I was the proud owner of one lightly blemished lift at a substantial discount… Psst, don’t share it around but it was over 50%

Its Been Twenty Years…

…since I have been without a street bike.  Its wierd.  My garage is empty, clean, and roomy.  I hate it. :)

The Futura was a great bike and I plan on doing a full review at a later date.  I really had no complaints, and she never left me stranded.  I think its the best sport-tourer to have if you want to ST fast.

Anyway, the new owner picked it up today and created a hole.  That hole will be filled eventually, but probably not for a while.  I have a fancy for the Triumph Rocket III at the moment, but time will tell how the used market has them priced.

Heh - someone else is going to have to do the heavy lifting

Road Racing… Again… When will it end????

Ok,

It’s Round #5 of the CCS/SW road racing series this weekend.   To tell the truth I am looking forward to the forced summer vacation.

See I have been racing most every month for the past 9 months.  9 rounds, 11 race days, a number of Track Days, Track Schools, Working Out, Going to Two Wheel Tuesday and much more.    It just has been a ton of motorcycling racing and its time to go street riding and enjoy just hanging out.

Last race weekend my buddy got a bit aggressive and low sided behind me.  That gave me the opportunity to have my first high side.  3 seconds later, I was up running to my bike.  I don’t know what has changed in
