Time to sell a race bike.

Back when this Blog first got started, I soon purchased my first track bike. In January of 2006 I picked up a well used 2000 GSXR750, with the only intention of going out and doing track days. Little did I know that it would quickly lead me down the dark path of motorcycle racing.
Allot has changed for me with my track riding. I really liked my GSXR750 because it had lots of power and I felt it was a real race bike. Over time I came to understand that the ‘2000 GSXR750 had seen it’s glory days as a race bike fade. It’s all about confidence and the 2000 GSXR750 while capable, did not give as much confidence as the newer bikes.
At the start of the 2008 season, I parked the GSXR and only have taken it out of the garage once for a race school. The only reason I took it in the first place was, if the my SV650 broke down, I wanted a spare bike to finish the school. So the GSXR750 is just taking up space that could be filled with a new race bike for 2009.
So this summer I will take the tank off and the bodywork for some light repairs. Nothing to fancy, just clean it up and get a light touch up done on the paint. The summer in phoenix will be to hot for anyone to consider a race bike, but around September 1st, people will start looking. I figure it will take some time to find a good home, but I am sure it will move. In reality I have two bikes, one to race the other in spare parts. At $4000 for the whole package, including spare forks, extra wheels, etc.
So it’s time to part with my first track bike. I don’t like selling motorcycles, because they are a part of me. If I had space, I would just park it and collect a bunch of motorcycles. But that is not now, and now means I need to prepare for my 2009 season…. Maybe I will get an SV1000, or a GSXR1000… who knows????

I struggled riding two dirt bikes - a yz250 two-stroke & a yz426 four-stroke. Two completely different bikes that had two completely different riding styles. I actually rode them both worse.
As you’ve already figured out, its probably better to focus on one type of machine…an SV1000 would be a nice addition because the riding style will be similar to the SV650.
Good luck with the sale “used bike, adult owne, only ridden on weekends…”
