The Rain Cometh to Phoenix!

This is probably the dumbest thing to do - cheer for oncoming rain - since it hasn’t actually started raining yet. But I can’t help myself. During the hot summer months, I pretty much don’t ride without a previous rain. I’m willing to suffer either heat or dust, but not both.
The peak traction more than makes up for the miserable heat. That, and the fact that my knobbies are totally junk, torn, and worn out lets me extend their life just a little longer. I think I would actually die if I rode with that rubber in anything but wet dirt. Oh, I have a new knobby waiting to be installed, but I’m just lazy. I’m especially lazy when it comes to busting tires with manual irons in 105F night time garage temperature.
As I sit here now, not one drop has hit the ground. Phoenix is notorious for the head fake when it comes to rainfall. I cannot see a star in the sky…or the moon for that matter. It’s dark and extremely shitty looing outside, but no rain yet. I’m not American Indian, so a rain dance would have to be alcohol induced.
Here’s the hard part: my main riding buddy is my manager. How do I play call in sick in this situation and with whom should I ride? Life is full of dilemmas.
SIDEBAR: Just as I was going to get all philosophical…philosophical enough to have a quote land on a Franklin Planner page…it started raining. WOOHOO!
Let the scheming begin!
EDIT 7:00AM 26Aug2008 - Apparently the rain really cometh. The road to work was closed and I rec’d a text message from my manager stating “cough, cough”. No, we will not be calling in sick, but we both have vacation to burn. Life is good!
