Motorcyclists and Ball & Stick Sports

I must be a rare find…
I am the only motorcycle rider aside from my dad (an avid footbal fan) who also enjoys ‘ball & stick’ sports. Seriously, I know no others - dirt or street. This weekend had me wondering why.
I went to the Phoenix Supercross on Saturday evening which was at the same time as the Phoenix Cardinals’ playoff game. I’m not kidding. The Phoenix Cardinals are in the Playoffs, AND THEY WON! They are one game away from the Superbowl. That’s like the odds of an American winning the MotoGP championship…oh wait.
What made me think of this was the fact that the stadium that hosted the Supercross had monitors in the hallways broadcasting the football game live. NO ONE stopped to even check the score. I created a traffic jam when I stopped in traffic the check out the game. Its called multi-tasking.
Anyway, I understand that motorcycling is what I would consider the ultimate solo-sport because its usually done with friends. Kind of like skiing and hunting. But I have noticed that most of those who are not into ‘ball & stick’ sports actually don’t like them versus just not caring. Heck, I’m holed up here in Montreal and even the ever-so-feminne French language of the announcer didn’t ruin the hockey game on TV.
Shoot me but I like watching football, hockey, motocross, and MotoGP.
NOTE: I am not a true fan of any sport in the sense that I cannot watch a random game of teams with which I have no connection. Likewise I cannot watch AMA Road Racing since MotoGP came around.
Riding sport bikes or off-road takes some degree of athleticism, and I developed mine through team sports starting when I was seven, the exact same age I got my first dirt bike. To be honest, I cannot watch an NBA game (thugs) or any baseball game (boring). I can, however, sit through an entire Detroit Lions (Michigan native) game and be somewhat entertained.
For me, it doesn’t seem to have a connection to what I played as a kid either. Even though I played soccer for over ten years, and was pretty good, I can’t watch it on TV. And even though I love to watch the Detroit Red Wings, I was a spectator long before I played (err…tried to play) hockey.
It might be tied to my alma mader of Michigan State University where they were top-ranked in college basketball (March Madness is some of the best sporting TV out there), hockey, and decent in football. Maybe those who aren’t into the ball and stick stuff didn’t do the college thing or didn’t have good teams, or had no teams at all. Who knows?
I’m wondering if I’m out in the weeds here or if others have noticed the same thing. You ball and stick sports fans identify yourselves…I dare you.

Sorry AB, but I lost interest in stick ‘n ball sports when Willie Mays left the SF Giants and Y.A. Tittle left the SF 49ers.
