Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn Installation & Review

After commuting to work for a couple of weeks in stop and go D/FW traffic, I had to opportunity to use my bikes horn. It was the classic vehicle changing into my lane without looking. I hit the horn button on this big, bad, V-Star, 1100cc monster of a bike I was riding and it responded with an anemic “meep” sound. I’m sure the sound was not even audible over all the traffic noise. I could sense the other drivers around me laughing. I knew then it was time to change out the OEM horn. It had, in fact, become the first thing that I wanted to change on the bike.

Where has AMA / DMG Motorcycle Roadracing Gone?

I’ve been watching every race of the entire AMA season on SPEED TV for many years. But this year, apparently someone has decided they aren’t going to air it!?!?!

I wish I could understand what’s going on in the minds of the AMA/DMG honchoes? I used to be a pretty dedicated fan. Not only did I watch every race, but I usually attend at least 2 each year in-person.

If I don’t see some races pretty soon on SPEED, especially the weekend they actually occur, they can count me GONE!

In fact, I’m starting considering trying the paid webcast, to see if it would be the more cost effective way to go when watching WSBK and MotoGP.

If that turns out to be the case, then Dish Network

Motorcycle Addiction, the Signs?

Are you a Motorcycle Addict?

I was reading the latest issue (April 2009) of Motorcycle Consumer News and came across an interesting observation by apologist Fred Rau. He noted the 10 questions most commonly asked by addiction assistance groups to determine whether your addiction is real or imagined. (Why is it always 10 questions?)

1)       Do you lose time from work due to your addiction?

Getting My Facts Straight

I’m not big on State and Ferderal taxes and/or fees. That said, as a BLM and a State Trust land user, I have happily paid my usage permit fees over the years under the assumption that my fees were assisting in maintaining and supporting the land usage(s). Well, in AZ for the State Trust land that assumption is WRONG!

My riding buddy was given a form letter when he was at a local OHV park by a park ranger. It rambled on a while about our current dust concern and its negative impact on the air quality, then came the kicker - all of the State Trust land usage permit revenue goes into the State’s general fund.

From that point forward in

Shivering on the 25th: Aprilia SL 750

I just purchased my 25th motorcycle. On this silver anniversary, even I’m a bit surprised by that number. I’ve been riding now for 30 years and my taste has remained fairly predictable: sportbikes and standards. I’ve owned many different brands from several countries but have also shied away from a few others. When I started down this path, I don’t think I ever imagined reaching this point.

I finally got to take my latest purchase for a spin after several days of delay related to other conflicting plans both personal and professional. And after

FIXING Leaking Fork Seals

No, that is not a typo.  Both of my YZ450 fork seals were leaking a couple of rides back and I actually fixed the problem without the costly process (time and/or money) of replacing them.  These fork seals were replaced ust after I bought the bike so that I would have a fresh start and a ‘known’.

How?  Check it out:

Its similar material to mylar and it purpose is to clean the inner surface of the fork seal from debris, etc.  35mm film has been rumored to work as well.

I could go through the whole process of documenting the how-to process, but its laredy very nicely done at the SEAL MATE website.  The Cliff’s Notes version is simple

Omnibus Public Lands Bill to be Voted on Monday, March 16!

See… this is a play in words.  This exact Bill was defeated this week in the House falling TWO votes short of the two-thirds needed.  Good news right?  Nope.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stuffed the exact same Bill in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program as an ammendment - a friggin’ 1300 page ammendment.  I’m guessing as many politicians will read it as did the Stimulus Bill from Pelosi/Obama - ZERO.

Idiots.

This is what happens when feel good democrats are in charge.  All of us off-roaders: 2-wheel, 3-wheel, quad, jeepers, and sand rails need to come together and send an overwhelming message to our U.S. Senators and our Senate Leadership.  The House defeated the Bill yet

Found a Long Lost Tool

Since I have recently mastered the art of changing tires manually, I have a whole collection of extra valve stem caps and cores. This experience, of course, is due to my penchant for pinch flats on the dirt bike. I am hoping that $200 later and front + rear Tubliss systems that will be something of the past.

Probably five years ago, I made a valve core tool by using a metal valve stem cap with the slotted end and a YZF750 connecting rod bolt. The threads were not the same pitch and by forcing them together…well…its a permanent tool.

I have looked for that damn tool for a couple years now and probably two dedicated searches of the

Vega XT Half Helmet Review

I decided to start looking at all the local motorcycle shops for a new helmet. I was looking for a half helmet, D.O.T. and or Snell approved, titanium in color to match my bike. One day at lunch a co-worker, Thomas Ramirez and I rode to Full Boar Cycles in Hurst Texas to look at motorcycle parts and accessories.

I still needed a lot of riding equipment so I was browsing in Full Boar Cycles and pricing riding gear. I was in the helmet section and saw a titanium colored helmet that was close to the color of my Mistress. Mistress is my V-Star 1100 Classic. I tried on a size XXL and it was loose on my head. I had read
