Getting My Facts Straight

I’m not big on State and Ferderal taxes and/or fees. That said, as a BLM and a State Trust land user, I have happily paid my usage permit fees over the years under the assumption that my fees were assisting in maintaining and supporting the land usage(s). Well, in AZ for the State Trust land that assumption is WRONG!
My riding buddy was given a form letter when he was at a local OHV park by a park ranger. It rambled on a while about our current dust concern and its negative impact on the air quality, then came the kicker - all of the State Trust land usage permit revenue goes into the State’s general fund.
From that point forward in the letter, it made the point that since there is no reimbursement from the fees collected, the maintenance of the land is a COST. Period. It left me with the feeling that tis was a preamble to the land being closed to off-road usage.
I cannot understand how this is so. I feel stupid that what I thought was a safe assumption was simply false (insert the ols saying about ASS-U-ME).
Where is the wisdom in having a revenue source go away because the revenue is not supporting the source. ust another fine example of our government at work. Idiots.

I believe I mentioned this exact possibility back when you first posted regarding the “fee”. Government rarely uses the money it collects from a certain group to benefit that group. It almost always goes into a general fund that can be used for just about anything. I’m sorry your bubble of hope got busted. Even though, this is still a great country, there’s still plenty of breaches of the public trust! Time for civil disobedience?
