Where has AMA / DMG Motorcycle Roadracing Gone?

I’ve been watching every race of the entire AMA season on SPEED TV for many years. But this year, apparently someone has decided they aren’t going to air it!?!?!

I wish I could understand what’s going on in the minds of the AMA/DMG honchoes? I used to be a pretty dedicated fan. Not only did I watch every race, but I usually attend at least 2 each year in-person.

If I don’t see some races pretty soon on SPEED, especially the weekend they actually occur, they can count me GONE!

In fact, I’m starting considering trying the paid webcast, to see if it would be the more cost effective way to go when watching WSBK and MotoGP.

If that turns out to be the case, then Dish Network is going to lose $70 a month from me also.

Saturday night shows now, the week or two after the events. Daytona was the only one this season to be aired live or even same day.

SPEED will be showing the races on their new weekly time slot (Saturday nights) on a show called AMA Pro Prime Time. They’re smoking crack if they think everyone is perfectly OK with waiting one or even two weeks after a race to watch it on TV. Hell, I can barely stay away from road racing news on the Internet for one day, let alone a week or two. They claim that they’re going to air the American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike races from each event, but I have yet to see one. (The show premiered last weekend I believe). Screw ‘em. They must not want any new fans.

Not only do they NOT want any new fans, they don’t seem to want to keep the old ones either!

When SPEED first decided to go NASCAR, I figured it would spell the end of motorcycle roadracing on US TV. It’s been a slow death, but the signs are undeniable now.

All we can hope is that some other network step-up and start showing what SPEED doesn’t want to.
