Mandating Laws to protect us from ourselves & others.

Recently gb posted a blog about the recent motorcycle fatalities which spurred I believe a new record in MB.com responses of 28. Along with many other comments, there was the debate between “Personal Freedom” vs Mandated laws to provide a safe environment for all of us to live in. Should we mandate helmet laws or any laws if it saves lives?

Sidebar: I have done my fair share of drinking in my early years, now that I am older my consumption has diminished greatly. What I now drink in 1 year is what I might have consumed in 1 night when I was in high school or college. Now I do drink from time to time generally no more than

1 out of 10 American Driver’s Would Fail a Driving Test

I think the article says it all.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - When faced with a written test, similar to ones given to beginning drivers applying for licenses, one in ten drivers couldn’t get a passing score, according to a study commissioned by GMAC Insurance.

The GMAC Insurance National Driver’s Test found that nearly 20 million Americans, or about 1 in 10 drivers, would fail a state driver’s test if they had to take one today. GMAC Insurance is part of General Motors’ finance subsidiary, GMAC.

AMA Website Offers Good Infomation, Supports our Right to Ride and Lets You Voice your Opinion.

No matter if you are a member or not of the AMA or you do or don’t support them they do provide a comprehensive list of information for everyone regarding your right to ride and legislation that could effect your rights. They offer easy links to send emails to most government officials about each of presented issue. If you disagree with AMA supporting or opposing a specific legislation you can change the email body to present your view.

On the website you can find state by state laws both on and off road. It’s interesting that Arizona has a law that state handlebars can not be more than 15″ above the seat height. I don’t think I have

It’s just “Common Sense”.

I know in AZ it is legal to ride without a helmet. Your can also ride with the least amount of cloths as possible as long as you aren’t considered indecent.

Here is why I say it is only “Common sense” to wear protective gear and it has nothing to do with accidents.

It was the last weekend of Arizona Bike week. Joanna and I had ridden out to Bartlett lake and were on our way back when we came around a corner and went right through a swarm of bees at about 40 mph. After we got through them and a ways down the road we pulled over and picked off numerous live and dead bees. I would guess we each

Pedrosa matches another of Rossi’s Records

Daniel Pedrosa matched another of Valentino Rossi’s records but soon will set a new standard.

At LeMans, Pedrosa stayed with a group of 5 or 6 riders sometimes at the end of the pack. Just in Rossi style he came from behind with 5-6 laps to go, ripped off 4 consective lap records. Was passed with 1-1/2 laps to go by De puniet, but came back and passed De puniet for the lead and the win. This was Dani’s 2nd win of the year and put him back in the points lead. Additionally this win established Pedrosa as the only rider since Valentino to win 17 GP’s before his 20th birthday. Dani will not turn 20 until September so there is

MotoGP.com subscription

It was the Saturday before the first race of the MotoGP season. The converstion at home went something like this between Joanna and I.
Nick: I totally forgot the opening round of MotoGP is tomorrow when we were talking about going for a ride.
Joanna: Do you want to live life or sit on the couch.

Ouch that hurt, but she was right. We don’t have a Tivo, VHS or DVD recorder. For the most part the only things we would want to record are motorcycle races. So I thought to myself how can we see the MotoGP races? Subscribe to MotoGP and so we did.

So you think Rossi is the best?

It seems the most successful route today to becoming a MotoGP champion is for riders to climb up the ranks from 125cc > 250cc > MotoGP. Gone are the days of coming up through AMA or WSB. Today you need the experiences from traveling with the MotoGP circus. Riding the tracks, developing the bikes, racing against the best riders in the world in your class. It’s everything you need to become a MotoGP champion. By the time you apprentice in AMA or WSB - learning to ride fast, develop a bike - you’re almost too old to move over to MotoGP. Once in MotoGP you have to learn all the tracks, you are away from home, everything is different and
