Contributor: Skid Lid
Geography: Born in Ohio & raised in Northern California’s Bay Area. Lived and worked a lifetime in Asia, Europe, Central America and the United States. Hawaii is my adopted home; Southern California (La Quinta) is my actual retirement home.
Year born: 1937
Occupation: Retired. (Former U.S. Army lifer and civilian DOD Military Plans Specialist thereafter.)
Street riding since: 1951
Dirt riding since: 1965
Credentials / Courses / Licenses: Motorcycle Safety Course - 1981
Current bike(s): None. Now I ride my virtual Skid Lid Special.
Previous bike(s): I owned about 11 bikes in all, from a home-made motorbike in 1951 through a series of Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha bikes, to my final ‘87 Kawasaki 750R Ninja.
Dream bike(s): My last one — “87 Kawasaki 750R Ninja and my current virtual, one-liter Bimoto Sport Touring bike.
Favorite roads: The Skyline in the Japanese Alps, the twister to Nikko, Japan, the steep dirt track up Grass Mountain on Taiwan (Formosa), the autobahn to Munich, Germany and Innsbruck, Austria, and Snake Road to the Skyline in the Coast Range Mountains of Northern California.
Other hobbies & interests: Freelance writing, reading adventure/romance, espionage, political, motorcycle and military books. I love football, other gladiator sports and handguns. I place the highest priority on the three “F’s“ of faith, family and, it’s a toss-up, on fitness or fun. (Lately, it’s been leaning more toward fun.)
Words of wisdom: I’m still working on that, but I’m convinced of one one thing: ”There ain’t no free lunch.”
Quote: “For where thy treasure is, there also will thy heart be.” (MATT. VI. 21) (Be careful what you wish for.)
Current bike pics: Still looking for the right one . . . a Bimoto.
