i have a 1982 kaw KZ1100. just rebuilt the carbs. now trying to ballance. clymer says my tac is not precise enough to do a good job. finally found a tac on ebay. came in a plain box with no instructions. only has a red and black lead. don’t want to mess anything up. how does it hook up. thanks jim

The OE tach claim really sounds suspicious. I have never heard that before. Is the claim that the resolution in the tach istelf is NG, because a new tach is going to get the exact same signal (from the coil?).

Truth is, I don’t know the answer. Two questions:

What brand of tach did you buy? Do a google search on the brand + “tachometer” + “installation”.

Do you belong to a KZ1100 online forum? (this second question is rhetorical with the hope that if the answer is “no” you will change that. There is a wealth of information and those willing to help due to the bond of riding the same bike. These guys will know.)
